Humana Partners with ParcelShield to Improve Specialty Medication On-Time Delivery

LOUISVILLE, KY.— Feb. 27, 2019 – Humana members with chronic conditions who utilize specialty medications can rest assured their prescriptions will arrive safely and on-time thanks to a partnership between Humana Pharmacy, the mail-delivery pharmacy service of Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), and ParcelShield, the leader in technology-driven critical package protection.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, chronic disease is a leading driver of health care costs  6 in 10 Americans live with at least one chronic disease, such as heart disease, cancer, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Medication adherence is a big factor in managing these diseases and helping patients stay healthy.

Specialty medication can require refrigeration and must be cold pack shipped, which provides a 48-hour window for the medication to be shipped safely and securely.  

By utilizing ParcelShield’s platform, Humana Pharmacy’s specialty dispensing team can proactively detect when there might be a problem with a specialty medication package’s delivery – such as weather and air travel issues – in order to prevent delays in members getting their therapy.
